British Airways blocks Heathrow short-haul bookings

2022-08-02

A capacity cap imposed by Heathrow means BA is not taking new bookings until 8 August on short-haul departures from the main London hub. BA has had to freeze new bookings to leave space on its flights for passengers whose original flight has been consolidated.

BA said: “As a result of Heathrow’s request to limit new bookings, we’ve decided to take responsible action and limit the available fares on some Heathrow services to help maximise rebooking options for existing customers, given the restrictions imposed on us and the ongoing challenges facing the entire aviation industry.”

BA.com showed a requested Heathrow-Berlin departure this week as only available from London City airport, while Heathrow-Madrid was shown as available only from Gatwick.

The airline may choose to continue with the policy if Heathrow’s capacity issues are not resolved.
